Freedom Fortress is a HUGE Loose Parts Play Neighbourhood Backyard located at Yarrabilba. This place has been built BY children, FOR children!

Queenland's second "Neighbourhood Backyard", this space has many applications and benefits. Children  say that this space is  somewhere they feel safe, can see their friends, have freedom and have fun!  Parents tell us that their children build social confidence, physical capacity and grow their community connections.

Parents and Carer's who visit say their children demonstrate improved emotional regulation and decreased behavioural issues, increased physical health and gross motor skills. Are happier, less sad, less lonely, make friends, sleep better, eat better and choose less screen time at home..

Similar to Joomunjie Land in Eagleby. it was built as a response to children and their need to have somewhere local to play, open when they need it,  and supervised by Playworkers

What's a Neighbourhood  Backyard?

Children tell us, it's their  Backyard. This means it's a safe space that children can get to on their own, where they don't need parents to supervise. Freedom Fortress is a communal backyard, a neighbourhood backyard! Where all children in the neighbourhood can come and play together.
